This new acoustic quartet was formed in 2022 by Ignaz Schick in Berlin and unites four iconic and cutting edge players of the city’s thriving contemporary jazz and improvisation scenes.
Over the past years all four players have developed a highly distinguished sonic language on their individual instruments. They are known for their musical curiosity and versatility and are involved in a multitude of innovative projects. The group started out as a strictly improvising unit and played several concerts until in 2023 Schick started to bring in composed material which ranges from loose tone rows, graphically notated parts to rhythmically advanced themes. The material being arranged in a fifty-something minute long suite which is constantly alternating between improvised and composed sections. A continuous stream of adventurous music, which ranges from extremely subtle and calm chamber music via vamping odd grooves to uptempo power free jazz. This ensemble is more than a compilation of four highly individual voices: a band that instantly found its own distinctive group sound.
