Songs of the Latter Day Greek Diaspora
The Lily Talmers Band is a New York-based ensemble dedicated to moving beyond genre, seeking to engage with “folk music” as it is most loosely defined– that is, “the music of the people.” Comprised of musicians with backgrounds in American folk, jazz, and mediterranean music, the band takes on original songs written with the likes of Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell in mind, but whose melodies reveal the subtle swirling of Greek, Lusophone, and western classical music. Lily’s Greek-American heritage means that the set will include both original and Greek traditional music, rethought!
